GEF is seeking 2 to 4 student interns for the 2007 - 2008 school year to work with the Board of Directors, and specifically the Public Relations Committee.

The principle task for the interns is to devise, plan and execute GEF's Winter 2008 Community Event. While the choice of the event itself will be the interns' decision, the purpose of the event is to create an opportunity for interaction between members of the public and members of the school community, as well as to raise awareness within Gorham about GEF and its goals. The Community Event will be a creation of the interns from beginning to end, but will have the support and encouragement of the Board. Interns should plan to spend a considerable amount of time and energy throughout the process, and should be prepared to make such a time commitment. [Commitment is expected to be 2 to 4 hours in the first month, to increase to up to 10 or more hours per week near the event and thereafter].

In keeping with its goals for promoting student leadership, GEF believes this opportunity will assist enthusiastic students to learn through supported, hands on experience, to engage in real-world planning, budgeting, and promoting, to exercise judgment and creativity in creating a meaningful event for members of the community, and to function as peers in a vibrant non-profit organization.

Interns will be assisted by GEF Public Relations Committee, and will have clearly defined guidelines, but will essentially act independently. These positions are unpaid, but will be credited toward the community service requirement for graduation. Application is open to all Gorham High School students in good standing. Two school and two community references are required for application. Click here to download application
